Dahlia Kanner
Since the beginning of time people have
adorned themselves with natural objects. I seek
to translate those ephemeral expressions into
long-lasting pieces through the application of
nature-inspired textures to a variety of organic
and geometric forms. Designs are generated
through the concentrated study of specific
natural objects.
Although these works are small, I believe in
their potential to communicate a powerful
message, encouraging the wearer to become
immersed in a textural world and to develop a
higher consciousness of the forms and fabrics
of nature. An intimate relationship is forged
between the wearer, and then between the
wearer and the environment.
A 1996 graduate of the Rhode Island School of
Design, I live and work in Rhode Island. My
jewelry is handcrafted using the techniques of
lost wax casting, forming, carving, and
fabrication, using primarily eighteen-karat gold
and sterling silver.
